چکیده

Electron microscopy has a strategic position in the diagnosis of neuromuscular disorders. In muscular fibers the main abnormalities includes vacuoles, vesicles, inclusion bodies, sarcoplasmic reticulum modifications and mitochondrial alterations. The differential diagnosis includes polymyositis, inclusion body myositis, some sarcolemmal and nonsarcolemmal dystrophies, lysosomal storage diseases. Degenerative alterations of mitochondria, causing swelling and cristae fragmentation, may be considered also as a precocious feature of drug-induced muscle damage guiding molecular genetic analysis. The ultrastructural approach seems to improve the diagnostic accuracy in muscle disorders, making possible the identification of changes and structures related to new hypothesized pathogenetic mechanisms.

Examination of Lung Parenchyma by Electron Microscopy

In this paper many of the principal structure of the Moral Lung were studied with the help of Electron Microscopy. Detailed description was given of Granular Pneumocytes, Membranous Pneumocytes, Macrophages, and Alveolar Capillaries. A discussion followed on the form and function of Granular Pneumocytes.  Acknowledgements  I am grateful to the Reza Shah Pahlavi Foundation for its generou...

Pathology of the neuromuscular junction.

Diagnosis of neuromuscular disease by the study of motor endplate structure in the light and electron microscopes is probably one of the most specialized examinations in the field of neuropathology. The classical means of staining endplates using gold, silver or methylene blue are described as well as more modern techniques suitable for light microscopy. Specific abnormalities in patterns of te...

The application of x-ray diffraction and electron microscopy to the study of human peripheral nerve obtained by biopsy.

Human peripheral nerves obtained by biopsy from patients suffering from neuromuscular disorders have been studied by x-ray diffraction and electron microscopy. Few abnormal diffraction patterns have yet been recorded and their significance is not yet established. Electron micrographs have revealed wide variations in the numbers of myelinated fibres included in the nerve trunks and have facilita...

Ultrastructural Studies of Human Cutaneous Nerve with Special Reference to Lamellated Cell Inclusions and Vacuole-containing Cells.

One hundred and twenty-nine specimens of human cutaneous nerve obtained from patients suffering from a variety of neuromuscular disorders have been surveyed in detail by electron microscopy. The most striking finding was the presence of lamellated Schwann cell inclusions and of cells containing vacuoles, both of which appear to be derived from myelin and to show some correlation with sensory loss.

Histochemical And Electron Microscopic Diagnosis Of Mitochondrial Myopathy: The First Case Report From Iran

Muscle tissue, skeletal muscle as well as cardiac muscle, is commonly affected in mitochondrial disorders. One explanation for this observation is that muscle tissue has a high-energy demand and therefore is more sensitive to a deficiency of mitochondrial energy production than some other tissues. In mitochondrial disorders, skeletal muscle tissue may be affected primarily by defective respi...
